PRIDE MOBILITY AND BLUE MOUNTAIN OFFER COURTESY SCOOTERS AT PENNSYLVANIA 500 RACE
Exeter, PA – August 9, 2010 – Pride Mobility Products Corporation recently provided Pride Scooters as a courtesy to race fans with mobility impairments for the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 race the weekend of July 30 – August 1. While inclusive accessibility is a goal for all race venues, Pocono Raceway is the first in the country to provide courtesy mobility scooters to its fans. With co-support provider, Blue Mountain Mobility, Pride helped Pocono Raceway achieve that goal.
“With such a vast fan demographic, including those with mobility impairments, Pocono Raceway continues to demonstrate a welcoming environment for all fans,” explained Mark Smith, Pride Mobility's Consumer Research Manager.
“Pride Mobility is dedicated to serving the mobility needs of all with mobility impairments, and encourage a 'live your best lifestyle,' so it's our privilege to serve the Pocono Raceway community in this first-of-its-kind venture.”
In addition to the courtesy scooter booth, Pride had a display booth in the premium sponsor area called FanFare where they were among premier national brand booths like Gillette, Chevy, and Sprint. Pride also held a pre-race, on-track scooter race among several fans in front of the grandstands and showcased a Jumbo Tron commercial playing hourly.
“We provided courtesy scooters for the Pocono Sprint Cup race in June,” explained Mark. “However, we didn't just want this second event to be about courtesy scooters, but also about overall disability awareness. We set up a 70-foot coned slalom course, where two fans at a time raced our scooters. Over 1,000 people rode our scooters, and to have our products seen and tried by so many people in a fun, non-intimidating way, goes a long way toward removing stigmas toward those with disabilities who rely on mobility products. A lot of perceptions were changed for the better.”
Pocono Raceway has long been recognized as one of the most competitive speedways. Pocono's unique 2.5-mile track features three turns, each with its own degree of banking and three straights. This combination produces fender-to-fender action in the turns and 200 mph slingshots on the long straights with photo finishes. Pocono Raceway is family-owned and situated in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
