Comfortable, supportive seating is important for everyone, including the elderly and those with mobility issues. By investing in a bariatric Geri chair, you can make sure your loved one has good posture and support while sitting and is still comfortable. Comfort is key when choosing a chair, but not every chair is going to suit each person. It’s important that the chair provides support for the person that is going to be using it.

Bariatric Geri Chairs Medicare Coverage
Bariatric Geri Chairs may be covered by Medicare under certain conditions. The motorized lift mechanism in the chair is an item that is covered by Medicare. Medicare can cover the cost up to 80% of the lift mechanism. You would be responsible for paying any deductible or co-pay, as well as the cost to cover the furniture portion of the chair. To qualify, you need to have a face-to-face examination with a doctor so that you can obtain a prescription for the seat lift mechanism. To qualify you either need to have severe arthritis of the knee or hip or a severe neuromuscular disease. You must be unable to stand up from a regular arm chair in the home. Once standing, you need to still be able to walk, even if you use a walker or cane. If Medicare has paid for a manual wheelchair, power wheelchair, or scooter in the past, then you may qualify. Medicare won’t cover the chair if you are in a skilled nursing facility or a hospital. Once you have the appropriate prescription, you can work with a provider to find the bariatric Geri chair that suits your needs. Learn more about bariatric Geri chair Medicare coverage.
